Characteristics

Woody climber, winding and then prostrate and assuming the habit of shrub or undershrub. Leaves paripinnate, multijugate with rachis ending in a bristle, reticulation on leaflets raised. Stipules setaceous. Flowers in axillary racemes or sometimes on short leafless branches. Calyx campanulate with 5 small lobes. Petals light blue; standard glabrous, ± adnate to staminal tube below. Stamens 9, monadelphous, uniform with no vexillary stamen. Flowering time Oct.-Feb. Pod membranous, glabrous, linear, compressed. Seeds markedly compressed, chocolate brown.

Leaflets elliptic-oblong, 5-17 x 3.5-6 mm, rounded at both ends rather than truncate; leaves and stems sparsely whitish-puberulous; reticulation of leaflets raised and rather evident; pods 3 x 7-5 x 5 cm long.
