Characteristics

Openly branched rush-like subshrub 0.2–0.4 m high, commonly ± prostrate. Branchlets terete, striate by prominent ribs, smooth or muricate, glabrous. Stipules 2–3 mm long. Phyllodes distant, resembling branchlets, occasionally a few terminal ones reduced to horizontally flattened scales, pentagonally-terete to ± flat and linear, 1–11 cm long, 1–2 mm wide, mucronate, smooth or muricate, glabrous, 5-nerved in all, 1-veined on each face and upper margin vein-like when phyllodes ± flat; gland not prominent, 1–3 mm above base; pulvinus indistinct. Inflorescences simple, 1 or 2 per axil, rarely more; peduncles 5–15 mm long, often reflexed, glabrous or appressed-puberulous; heads globular, loosely 6–11-flowered, cream or golden; buds ovate to elliptic, acute. Flowers 4-merous; sepals ⅔–¾-united, small; petals flabellate-striate, glabrous. Pods stipitate, 3–6 cm long, 4–5 mm wide, acuminate, curved, ± thinly coriaceous–crustaceous, reddish brown, glabrous, acutely quadrangular by winged margins c. 2 mm wide. Seeds longitudinal, oblong, 4–5 mm long; aril terminal, conical.
