Single-stemmed shrub or tree 6–12 m high. Bark corrugated at base, dark brownish grey. Branchlets often prominently angled, stout, grey or red-brown to almost black, often with distinct lenticels, glabrous or pubescent, often scurfy. Phyllodes very narrowly elliptic, gradually tapered to both ends, flat, falcate, 12–24 cm long, 3–25 mm wide, (to 30 cm long and wider in juveniles), acuminate, firmly coriaceous, glabrous or a few hairs at base, with 3 prominent main veins of which 2 are normally concurrent near base and close to but separate from lower margin; minor veins 2–4 (–5) per mm, ± few longitudinally anastomosing; gland 1, basal, to 3 mm above pulvinus. Spikes (3–) 4–9 cm long, often golden. Flowers 5-merous; calyx 0.6–1.2 mm long, dissected to ⅙ of its length, ± glabrous or with hairs mainly at apex and base; corolla 1.5–2 mm long, dissected to ½ of its length, glabrous; ovary densely pubescent. Pods linear, raised over and slightly to moderately constricted between seeds, 4.5–10 cm long, 2.5–4 mm wide, thinly coriaceous-crustaceous, glabrous. Seeds longitudinal, broadly elliptic, 3–6 mm long, black.
