Characteristics

Shrub or tree 5–10 m tall, generally velvety-villous throughout. Branchlets ribbed, dark coloured. Stipules linear or widely ovate, 3–6 mm long, ±indurate. Phyllodes narrowly elliptic, 12–17 cm long, 3.6–6 cm wide, unequal at base, acute at apex; indumentum sometimes sparse; midrib prominent and contiguous with lower margin for c. 5 mm above the prominent pulvinus; lateral nerves prominent and openly anastomosing; gland 3–19 mm above pulvinus. Inflorescences 7–10-headed racemes; raceme axes 3–9 cm long; peduncles 2–6 mm long, stout in fruit; heads globular, c. 50-flowered. Flowers 5-merous; sepals c. ⅔-united; petals appressed-puberulous at apices. Pods linear, rounded over seeds and slightly constricted between them, to 18 cm long, 8–9 mm wide, thinly coriaceous. Seeds longitudinal, according to L.Pedley, Austrobaileya 1: 275 (1980).
