Characteristics

Rounded or obconic ±dense shrub normally 0.3–1 m tall. Branchlets glabrous. Stipules normally caducous, inconspicuous. Phyllodes sometimes continuous with branchlet but not forming cauline wings, erect, pentagonal in section, 2–6 cm long, 1–1.7 mm diam., pungent, rigid, glabrous, glaucous to subglaucous between the 5 prominent yellow or yellow-green vernicose nerves. Inflorescences simple, 2 per axil; peduncles 5–15 mm long, glabrous; basal bract persistent or caducous; heads globular, 10–13-flowered, bright light golden; bracteoles variably villous with glistening hairs. Flowers 5-merous; sepals free. Pods oblong to narrowly oblong, to 2.5 cm long, 3–5 mm wide, firmly chartaceous to thinly coriaceous, declinate, glabrous. Seeds longitudinal to oblique, oblong-elliptic to oblong-obovate, 2.2–2.7 mm long, somewhat glossy, brown; aril ½ to full length of seed.
