Characteristics

Harsh, spreading, moderately open shrub 0.7-2.2 m high, glabrous. Bark dark grey to black. Branchlets rigid. Stipules 2-4 mm long, spinose, straight, spreading. Phyllodes sessile, patent to reclined, slightly asymmetric, lanceolate to narrowly triangular, some ovate, 7-13 mm long, 1.8-3.6 mm wide, acuminate, pungent, rigid, green to subglaucous, often tinged pale purple, 1-nerved; lateral nerves not evident. Inflorescences simple, 1 per axil; peduncles 6-8 mm long; heads globular, 23-flowered, golden; bracteoles absent. Flowers 5-merous; sepals free, narrowly linear-spathulate; petals nerveless. Pods curved, ±terete, to 5 cm long, 2-4 mm wide, coriaceous-crustaceous, red-brown, not striate. Seeds longitudinal, oblong-elliptic, 3-3.5 mm long, mottled; aril terminal.
