Characteristics

Perennial, dwarf shrub, 0.1-0.9 m high; rootstock woody, stout; indumentum setulose with white bulbous-based hairs or glabrous. Leaves many, linear or lanceolate, shortly petioled, base cuneate, apex acute, margins distantly acutely denticulate, 25.4-63.5 x 5.1-19.1 mm. Male spikes axillary, narrowly cylindric, 12.7-19.0 mm long; bracts spreading, persistent, sparingly setulose, 3.2 mm long. Male flowers buds glabrous. Female spikes terminal, solitary, 25.4-38.1 mm long; bracts 6.35 mm wide, base rounded with sharply and strongly serrate margins. Female flowers sepals 3, ovate; styles 3, united in their lower fourth; upper part of ovary closely glandular. Flowering time Dec., Jan. Seeds subglobose.
