Characteristics

Shrub, erect, virgate, to 3 m high. Branchlets developing ridges of cream-coloured flaky bark. Leaves eglandular; lamina elliptic, obovate or ovate, 4–25 mm long, 3–10 mm wide; base cuneate to obtuse; margin crenate to sinuate; tip mucronate, retuse or truncate; venation penninerved with 4 or 5 lateral veins per side of midrib. Inflorescences axillary and solitary, racemose or spicate, unisexual. Male flowers: sepals narrowly ovate, 0.7–0.9 mm long; stamens 8. Female flowers on long peduncles; sepals narrowly ovate, 0.5–0.8 mm long; styles 2–3 mm long, red. Fruit depressed-globose, 1.8–2 mm long, 3–4 mm diam. Seeds ovoid, 1.9–2.3 mm long, c. 1.8 mm wide.
