Characteristics

Perennial, dwarf shrub or herb, 0.10-0.35 m high; stems slender, erect; woody rootstock; simple to branched, striate; copiously patently setulose with white bulbous hairs. Leaves firmly membranous, many, small, shortly petioled, narrowly lanceolate, base rounded, apex acute, margins quite entire. Male spikes axillary, solitary, peduncled; spikes narrowly cylindric; bracts linear-lanceolate, spreading, persistent; buds setulose at apex. Female spikes terminal, solitary; bracts subsessile, large, foliaceous, ovate-lanceolate, acute, base rounded. Female flowers sepals 3, ovate, subacute, pilose; ovary distinctly 3-lobed; styles 3, shortly united below. Seeds subglobose.
