Characteristics

A shrub 1–1.5 m. tall.. Branchlets puberulous, soon glabrescent, sparingly lenticellate.. Buds perulate.. Petioles 2–3 mm. long, densely puberulous; leaf-blade obovate-oblanceolate, 4–7 cm. long, 1.5–3 cm. wide, narrowly acuminate, attenuate and narrowly rounded at the base, serrate, membranous, beset with small refringent glands above and beneath, sparingly puberulous on the midrib and main veins above and beneath, otherwise glabrous or subglabrous.. Stipules linear, 1 mm. long, subglabrous, readily deciduous.. Inflorescences racemose, terminal or arising from the axils of fallen leaves, up to 6 cm. long, the lower half to two-thirds ♀, the upper part ♂; axis puberulous; bracts resembling the stipules.. Male flowers very shortly pedicellate; buds globose, subglabrous, gland-dotted at the apex, green.. Female flowers: pedicels 2–3 mm. long, extending to 5–8 mm. long and becoming reflexed at the apex after flowering, puberulous; calyx-lobes ovate, 1 mm. long, subglabrous; ovary 1.5 mm. diameter, tuberculate and beset with small refringent glands; styles ± free, 3 mm. long, laciniate, glabrous.. Fruits 2 mm. long, 2.5 mm. diameter.. Seeds globose, 1.5 mm. long, dark brown.
