Petioles 1–7 mm. long; leaf-blade ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, (1–)3–6.7 cm. long, (0.4–)1–1.8 cm. wide, subacute or obtuse, cuneate or rounded, closely and rather indistinctly serrate or crenate-serrate, firmly membranous, 3(–5)-nerved at the base, lateral nerves 6–8 pairs, sparingly pubescent above and beneath at first, later becoming glabrous except along the midrib and main nerves, green above, paler beneath.. Stipules subulate, 1–2 mm. long, sparingly pubescent.. Male racemes solitary, axillary, 4–5 cm. long, long-pedunculate, sometimes replaced by allomorphic ♀ flowers which give rise to a clavate, 1-seeded fruit; bracts 0.5 mm. long..
