Characteristics

Perennial shrub, dwarf shrub or herb, 0.06-1.00 m high; stems firm, woody, sparingly branched; rootstock woody; bark striate, pubescent. Leaves membranous, many, shortly petioled, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, lowest obtuse, others acute, base rounded or shallow-cordate, margins shortly toothed; petioles setulose; stipules setulose, lanceolate, persistent. Male spikes axillary, solitary, peduncled; peduncles pubescent to densely setulose and glandular; spikes cylindric; bracts lanceolate, pubescent. Female spikes terminal, solitary, sessile; bracts subsessile, leafy, wide ovate-cordate, acute, margins toothed. Female flowers sepals 3, acute, pubescent and glandular; ovary distinctly 3-lobed, softly pubescent and glandular; styles 3, united in their lower fourth. Flowering time Dec. Seeds subglobose.
