Characteristics

A small tree. It grows 5-12 m tall and spreads 3-5 m wide. Aerial roots may be produced from the trunk. The young shoots are densely hairy. The leaves are 3-11 cm long by 1-2,5 cm across. The leaves are smooth and shiny on top and slightly hairy underneath. The leaf has a blunt tip. The flowers occur on stalks on an unbranched main flower stalk. There are few flowers. The flowers are 1-1.5 cm long with 4-5 slender petals. They are light green and bell shaped. The fleshy fruit is egg shaped and dark red. Fruit are 2-3 cm long and 1-2 cm wide. Inside it has a woody layer around the seed. Fruit and flowers can occur on the tree at the same time.
