Aconitum heterophyllum Wall.

A perennial herb. It grows 1 m high. It has 2 tubers. It grows 15-90 cm tall. It has a few branches in the lower part. The leaves are rounded to heart shaped. The flowers are in a loose group. The dry fruit is straight and 16-18 mm long. The seeds are 3-4 mm long and a rounded pyramid shaped almost with wings.

Alpine to sub-alpine open slopes; common on grassy meadows, upper oak/coniferous forest; also glacial riverine, rocky moist areas, alpine dry scrub, open grass, shady moist alpine slopes; usually on humus-rich soils; 2,300-2,900 metres.

Caution: It contains several toxic alkaloids. The roots are used as a tonic. It has been reported that the leaves and roots are cooked and eaten.

Plants are grown from seed but they are slow to germinate. Plants can also be grown by division of clumps.
