Characteristics

Plants robust, to 1 m tall; leaves imbricate, conduplicate, keeled, linear, acute, to 400 x 15 mm, grading into linear-lanceolate, 100 mm long sheaths. Inflorescences branched, to 400 mm tall, with up to 5 branches, laxly to rarely densely many-flowered; bracts linear-lanceolate, up to half as long as the pedicels. Flowers c. 7 mm long, not resupinate, sepals and petals brownish, lip dull yellow; pedicels plus ovaries 5-10 mm long. Sepals spreading, narrowly oblong to lorate, obtuse; median sepal 4-5 mm long; laterals sub-oblique, 5-6 mm long. Petals spreading, lorate to narrowly obovate, obtuse, 5 x 1.5-2.5 mm. Lip broadly obovate, very obscurely 3-lobed, basally constricted, deeply concave with incurved, crenate margins, 4-6 x 3-6 mm, disc more or less densely papillate with 3-5 rows of papillae; spur saccate, rounded, 1.5 mm long. Gynostemium with a stout, 2 mm tall column-part, foot developed into 2 knobs obscuring the entrance to the spur, stipes to 1 mm long.

Inflorescences terminal, lax panicles, branching with up to 5 branches, up to 400 mm long. Flowers many, sepals brown, petals yellowish brown, lip white to pale yellow, red to purple basal blotch. Sepals subequal, free; median sepal 4-5 mm long. Petals 4-6 mm long, similar to sepals. Lip 3-lobed, 5-7 mm long, concave, 3 or 4 ragged keels, without side lobes, 1-2 mm long; spur 1.5 mm long. Anther cap without horns. Flowering time Oct.-Dec.
