Characteristics

Shrub to 6 m high. Branchlets fawn to ferruginous brown, glabrous. Leaves coriaceous; petiole 1–7 mm long, grey-fawn; lamina length/petiole length ratio 12.5–125; lamina elliptic, obovate or oblanceolate, rarely orbicular, 19–152 mm long, 9–60 mm wide, base cordate to subcordate, often falsely stem clasping due to short petiole, margin weakly revolute, tip acute to rounded, rarely caudate or retuse, midrib below slightly raised at lamina base (height ± equal to width); venation with secondary vein orders distinct, lower surface pale olive-green and glossy. Male flowers: pedicel 6–8 mm long; sepals 1.8–2 mm long; petals 0.8–1.8 mm long; disc annular. Fruit depressed-globose to subglobose, rounded, 9–11 mm long, 13–16 mm diam.

Environment

Grows in the understorey of ‘dry’ rainforest (complex to simple, mesophyll to notophyll vineforest) or more rarely vine-thickets (semi-evergreen vine-thicket), in alluvium or rocky situations, on substrates derived from basalt, granite or metasediments, at altitudes 30–490 m.
