Characteristics

Shrub to 4 m high. Branchlets fawn-tan, glabrous. Leaves coriaceous; petiole 2–33 mm long, olive-green; lamina length/petiole length ratio 3.2–17.7; lamina oblanceolate, obovate, rarely elliptic or elliptic-ovate, 26–155 mm long, 13–82 mm wide, base acute, rarely rounded, margin flat to slightly recurved, tip acute or rounded, rarely retuse, midrib below strongly raised at lamina base (height less than or ± equal to width), venation with secondary vein orders distinct, lower surface pale green and glossy. Male flowers: pedicel 5–14 mm long; sepals 2–5 mm long; petals absent; disc 5-angled. Fruit depressed-globose, rounded, 8–9 mm long, 12–14 mm diam.

Grows in the understorey of ‘dry’ rainforests (semi-deciduous to deciduous, complex microphyll to notophyll vineforests) on substrates (alluvial or on ridges) derived from granites, laterised sandstones, metamorphics or sand ridges, at altitudes 30–430 m.
