A 40-150 cm high, regularly branched shrub or shrublet with erect stem and ascending to suberect branches; old specimens becoming ovoid to obovoid in outline. Branches terete, puberulent, glutinous when young; later glabrescent, defoliated, and covered with prominent leaf-scars forming a regular pattern; cortex light brown with blackish stripes between the persistent leaf-bases. Leaves densely set, erecto-patent, loosely imbricated, glabrous; petiole appressed, 1.5-2 mm long, pale yellowish; blade oblong to narrowly oblong, 8-14 x 2.2-3.1 mm, coriaceous, obtuse to obtusely apiculate, with thickened, revolute margins, dull green and smooth above, whitish-green with a prominent green mid-vein below, sparsely and rather inconspicuously glandular-punctate. Uppermost leaves crowded, more or less spathulate, forming an involucre. Flowers sessile to subsessile in 1-4-flowered terminal, very glutinous heads which become hard and tough when dry; remnants of the previous season's heads often persistent in branch axils. Bracts narrowly oblong to oblanceolate, 7-12 x 2.0-3.1 mm, obtusely apiculate, pale green, the lower half minutely ciliate, with large, yellow, resin-producing glands on the inside. Bracteoles lanceolate, subcanaliculate, 5.0-8.5 x 1.4-2.0 mm, minutely ciliate, pale green. Calyx 7.0-9.5 mm, divided almost to the base, olive-green, glabrous; segments oblong to oblanceolate, 6.5-8.9 x 2.1-2.8 mm, subcanaliculate, acute, minutely ciliate, with large, yellow, resin-producing glands on the inside. Petals pinkish outside, white inside, spathulate to narrowly obovate, 13-20 x 5.0-8.8 mm, obtuse; claw usually very gradually widening as it merges into the limb. Staminodes lacking or rudimentary. Stamens: filaments narrow, tapering, glabrous or sparsely pilose, more or less translucent, 0.9-1.5 mm long at anthesis, later elongating; anthers oblong to ovoid, basifixed, hardly versatile, 0.9-1.6 x 0.6-0.9 mm, glabrous, brown, tipped by a shortly stipitate, erect, capitate to pyramidal gland c. 0.5 mm across. Ovary globose, 1-1.5 mm across, glabrous, smooth, green; style 1 mm at anthesis, erect; stigma capitate, relatively large. Mature capsule longer than the calyx, glabrous, transversely rugose, light brown. Seeds oblong to narrowly ovoid, 4.5-6.2 x 1.9-2.3 mm.
