A 20-70 cm high shrublet with slender, more or less straggling branches. Young branches puberulent, reddish-brown; later glabrescent, defoliated, ash-grey, terete, and marked with rather inconspicuous leaf-scars. Leaves rather sparsely set, patent, not imbricated, glabrous; petiole c. 1 mm, erect, yellowish; blade variable in shape, from broadly to narrowly oblong or elliptic, 3.4-7.5 x 1.2-3.5 mm, apiculate or mucronate, with thickened, somewhat revolute, entire or faintly crenulate, glandular-punctate margins, above dark dull green and smooth, below whitish green, with a conspicuous mid-vein, smooth or very sparsely glandular punctate. Uppermost leaves hardly changed in shape, not forming an involucre. Flowers on reddish pedicels 5-14 mm long and 0.5-1 mm thick, glabrous, (very gradually widening towards the calyx) in 2-6-fIowered, slightly resiniferous umbels. Bracts distinctly different from the uppermost cauline leaves, lanceolate to oblanceolate or narrowly cuneate, 1.6-3.0 x 0.8-1.2 mm, sub-membranous, glabrous, acute, flat or obtusely carinate, somewhat thickened and often turning purple towards the apex. Bracteoles attached at or somewhat below the middle of the pedicel, usually at considerably different levels, erecto-patent, similar to the bracts but somewhat smaller and often with recurved apex. Calyx 5.0-6.5 mm, divided to c. 2/3, glabrous, inconspicuously glandular-punctate, reddish brown; segments ovate, 3.3-4.3 x 2.1-2.9 mm, slightly overlapping, acute, apically somewhat thickened, more or less excurved, purple or greenish. Petals with rather conspicuous veins, glabrous, white inside, pink outside and along the midvein; claw 2-3 mm long, gradually widening into the limb; the latter broadly elliptic to obovate, 6.0-8.2 x 4.8-6.5 mm, truncate, slightly emarginate. Staminodes erect, clavate, 3.0-3.8 mm long, patently pilose, yellowish or turning red towards the apex, tipped by a capitate, usually purple gland c. 0.4 mm across. Stamens: filaments subulate, 1-2 mm long, upper part erect or slightly incurved, patently pilose, pale yellowish; anthers broadly ovoid, dorsifixed, versatile, 1.0-1.5 x 0.8-1.1 mm, brown, glabrous or sparsely pilose, with a relatively long-stipitate, capitate gland c. 0.4 mm across. Ovary globose, c. 1.5 mm across, glabrous, pale brown, upper part papillate (from pale stipitate glands); style c. 1 mm long, stout, recurved; stigma discoid to capitate, olive-brown. Mature capsule about as long as the calyx, slightly rugose, upper part sparsely papillate, brown. Seeds ovoid, 3.4-4.0 x 1.8-2.1 mm.
