(incl. the 4–9 mm. long stipe), tubiform; hypanthium 1·5–3 × 3–6 mm., tapering, cup-shaped; calyx-tube 30–55 mm. long; calyx-lobes 5–7·5 mm. long, ovate-oblong, subobtuse, crenulate or fimbriate at the margin; petals 30–45 × 0·5(0·75) mm., linear, acute, 1–3-nerved, fimbriate, inserted at the same level as the corona or up to 2 mm. above it; corona-hairs 1–1·5 mm. long, slender, ramified; stamen-filaments 7–10 mm. long, connate at the base, inserted at the base of the hypanthium or on an androgynophore up to 2 mm. long; anthers 7–8·5 × 1 mm., obtuse, with apiculum c. 0·75 mm. long; disk-glands 1·5–2·5 mm. long; vestigial ovary c. 0·5 mm. long.
Leaf-lamina 2–10 × 3–8·5 cm., simple, unlobed, ovate to triangular or lanceolate, apex obtuse to acute with mucro 0·5–1 mm. long, margin entire, cordate to truncate or hastate at the base, membranous, greenish above, paler below, not punctate, with 3–5(7) main nerves from the base, 1–2(4) pairs of nerves from the midrib and rather indistinct reticulation; petiole 0·5–5·5 cm. long.
Cymes sessile or with peduncle up to 5 cm. long, 1–15-flowered in male, 1–3-flowered in female; bracts and bracteoles 1–2·5 mm. long, narrowly triangular to oblong, acute; pedicels 10–30 mm. long in male flower.
Glands of the lamina-base 2, 1·5–3 mm. in diameter, contiguous, yellowish, borne on the subspathulate or ± 2-lobed 2–5 mm. wide peltate lamina-base; glands of the lamina 0.
Capsule 4–5 × 4 cm., subglobose, with thick coriaceous pericarp, 15–20-seeded.
Herbaceous climber up to 5 m., with a turnip-shaped tuber.
Stipules 1–2 mm. long, narrowly triangular.
Sterile tendrils up to 15 cm. long.
Seeds c. 7 × 5 mm., ovate, pitted.
