Suberect herb or climber to 5 m., glabrous, growing from a tuberous root-stock.. Leaf-blades grey to glaucous, densely punctate or not beneath, entire, ovate or obovate to lanceolate, base attenuate to rounded, top acute-acuminate to broadly obtuse or subtruncate, sometimes with a subapical mucro, 1–15 by 0.5–5 cm., 3–5-nerved from near base to ± pinninerved; petiole 0.2–3 cm.. Glands at blade base 1 or 2, in the latter case these contiguous or free, either situated on a wart-like or subspathulate median appendage, or on 2 ± connate or separate auricles; blade-glands 0, or 1–3 pairs ± approximate to the nerve-axils.. Stipules narrowly triangular to linear, 1–1.5 mm.. Inflorescences peduncled up to 2(–3) cm., 2–20(–50)-flowered in ♂, 1–3(–5)-flowered in ♀, tendril 0 or 1, 3–7(–10) cm.; sterile tendrils 2–10 cm..
