Climber to 10 m., glabrous; stem ± terete, not winged or knobbly.. Leaf-blades entire to 3(–7)-lobed, orbicular to ovate, base cordate or rarely truncate, top acute, up to 0.5 cm. acuminate, 4–13 by 3–12 cm., pinninerved or main nerves from near base, margin entire; lobes up to 4 cm.; petiole 0.5–5(–6) cm.. Glands at blade-base 2, on 2 ± hollowed auricles 1.5–3 mm. in diameter lateral at the top of the petiole; no other glands present.. Stipules oblong, acute, 0.5–1.5 mm.. Inflorescences peduncled for up to 2 cm., up to 10-flowered in ♂, 1–5-flowered in ♀; tendril 0 or 1, 2–15 cm.; sterile tendrils up to 20 cm.. Capsule 2·25–3·5(4) × 2–3×5 cm., subglobose, 3-ribbed, greenish turning yellow, blackish when dry, with thick, smooth, coriaceous pericarp 1·5–2·5 mm. thick, 20–45-seeded.
Glands of the lamina-base 2, 1–2 mm. in diameter, on 2 auricles 1·5–3 mm. in diameter lateral to the apex of the petiole.
