Characteristics

Climber to 8 m., glabrous.. Leaf-blades dull glaucous green, not punctate beneath, (3–)5(–7)-lobed, suborbicular to broadly ovate in outline, base cordate to truncate, top acute to obtuse, 3–10(–18) by 3–10(–20) cm., 5-nerved from base; margin entire; lobes triangular to elliptic, up to 5 cm.; petiole 1.5–5.5(–7.5) cm.. Glands at blade-base 2, on 2 small auricles at the blade-margin at the transition to the petiole; blade-glands (0–)2–4, sub-marginal.. Stipules broadly triangular, acute, ± 1 mm.. Inflorescences in the axils of much reduced tricuspid leaves ± 2 mm. long, arranged on short-shoots 1–3 cm. long, peduncled for up to 4 mm., 3–7-flowered in ♂, 1–3-flowered in ♀, tendrils 0; sterile tendrils simple, 8–12 cm.. Male flowers narrowly campanulate, including the 5–7 mm. long stipe 12–19 mm.; hypanthium cup–shaped, 2–3 by 2–2.5 mm.; calyx-tube 0, sepals lanceolate-linear, subobtuse to subacute, 6–9 mm., entire; petals lanceolate, subacute, 5.5–9 mm., (3–)5-nerved, subentire; filaments (2.5–)3–5 mm., connate for (0.5–)1–2 mm., inserted at the base of the hypanthium; anthers 3–4 mm., subobtuse, apiculate; septa absent; corona composed of a few thick ‘hairs’ ± 0.5 mm., and of 5 membranous appendages 1 mm., opposite the petals; disk glands ± 0.2 mm.. Female flowers campanulate, including the 1–1.5 mm. long stipe 7–8 mm.; hypanthium cup-shaped, 1–1.5 by 2.5 mm.; calyx-tube absent, sepals oblong-lanceolate, obtuse, ± 5 mm.; petals oblong-lanceolate, acute, ± 3 mm., subentire; staminodes ± 2 mm.; septa 0; corona a ± lobed membrane or rim ± 0.2 mm.; disk glands ± 0–2 mm.; gynophore ± 0.5 mm.; ovary ovoid, ± 3 mm.; styles free, ± 2 mm.; stigmas subglobose, papillate, each ±1.5 mm. in diameter..
