Characteristics

Climber to ± 2.5 m., from a tuberous rootstock, glabrous.. Leaves greyish green, sometimes spotted beneath, very deeply 5-parted or 5-foliolate, suborbicular in outline, (2–)4–10(–25) by 4–20(–25) cm., 5-nerved from base; leaflets oblong to linear, base long-acute, top subobtuse to acute, up to 1.5 cm. acuminate, entire to deeply 3–8(–16)-lobed, 2–16 cm.; margin entire; petiolules up to 1.5 cm.; petiole 0.5–5 cm.. Glands at blade-base 2(–4), on 2 separate or contiguous wart-like appendages at the top of the petiole; blade-glands (0–)2–4(–16), submarginal or partly scattered.. Stipules linear, ± 1 mm.. Inflorescences peduncled for 1–8 cm., up to 10-flowered in ♂, 1–3-flowered in ♀; tendril (0–)1, 2–6 cm.; sterile tendrils up to 12 cm.. Flowers often reddish veined or striped..
