Characteristics

Somewhat woody climber up to 20 m.; twigs grey-green.. Leaf-blades not or sparingly punctate, entire or subentire, orbicular to ovate, base cordate, top obtuse to acute, 4–12 by 3.5–10 cm., 3(–5)-nerved from base and with 1(–2) pairs of nerves from the midrib ascending towards the top; reticulation distinct; margin entire or rarely 0.5 cm. sinuate; petiole 1.5–11 cm.. Gland at blade-base single, on a median spathulate to wart-like appendage 1.5–2.5 mm.; blade-glands (0–)2–4, rather approximate to the axils of the upper lateral nerves; marginal glands up to 6 at either side of the blade.. Stipules reniform, finely lacerate, 0.5–1 mm.. Inflorescences axillary to normal leaves or sometimes in the axils of reduced leaves on short-shoots, peduncles 0.2–5 cm., up to 15-flowered in ♂, 1–3-flowered in ♀, tendril 0 or 1, 1–2 cm.; sterile tendrils simple, 10–25 cm..
