(incl. the 3–6 mm. long stipe), tubiform to ± urceolate; hypanthium 3–5 ×5–12 mm., cup-shaped; calyx-tube 12–20 mm. long; calyx-lobes c. 8 mm. long, triangular to oblong, obtuse to sub-acute, fimbriate; petals 7–17 × 1·5 mm., lanceolate to linear, subacute, 3-nerved, fimbriate, inserted on the calyx-tube 4–5 mm. above the corona; corona consisting of fine hairs 1·5–2 mm. long; stamen-filaments 3·5–7 mm. long, free, inserted at the base of the hypanthium or on an androgynophore up to 1·5 mm. long; anthers 10–12 × 1–1·5 mm., obtuse, with apiculum up to 0·1 mm. long, reddish-dotted; disk-glands 1·5–2 mm. long; vestigial ovary 0·5–1 mm., on a gynophore 0·5–1·5 mm. long.

Leaf-lamina 3–15 × (2)3–15 cm., entire to 3–7-lobed, ovate-oblong to suborbicular in outline, acute at the apex with mucro up to 1·5 mm. long, cordate to subtruncate at the base, brownish-green on the upper surface, paler beneath, not punctate, ± pubescent mainly along the nerves, with 3–5(7) main nerves from the base, (1)2–5 pairs of nerves from the midrib and indistinct reticulation; lobes (1)2–10 × 1–5(6) mm., ovate to spathulate-oblong, sinuate-dentate; petiole 2–7(15) cm. long.
Cymes 5–10-flowered in male, 1–2-flowered in female; peduncle 0·5–5 cm. long; bracts and bracteoles 2–6 mm. long, lanceolate and sometimes dentate; pedicels 5–20 mm. long in male, 2–10 mm. long in female, pubescent; tendrils (0)1, 2–6 cm. long.
Glands of the lamina-base 2, on 2 auricles connate over the apex of the petiole; submarginal glands 0–6 and marginal ones minute, borne on the teeth.
Trailing herb 0·5–2·5 m. long with a tuberous rootstock, ± pubescent in all parts except the flowers.
Capsule c. 4·5 × 3·5 cm., ovoid-ellipsoid, with coriaceous pericarp, c. 40-seeded.
Fertile branches 3–7 mm. in diameter, greyish-green, with internodes 2–8 cm. long.
Seeds c. 7·5 × 5·5–6 × 3 mm., obovoid, pitted.
