Characteristics

Slender climber to 8 m.; twigs ± pale green, not punctate.. Leaf-blades not punctate, entire, broadly ovate to oblong, base cordate to subacute, top acute, up to 2.5 cm. acuminate, (2.5–)4–14 by (1.5–)2–7.5 cm., 3-nerved from base, nerves arching towards the top, with distinctly parallel venation between; margin with minute gland-teeth; petiole 1–7 cm.. Gland at blade-base single, situated at the base of a median spathulate appendage 1–3.5 mm.; blade-glands absent; marginal glands minute, 0–10 at either side of the blade.. Stipules reniform with crenulate-lacerate edge, 0.5–1.5 mm.. Inflorescences peduncled for 3–15 cm., lax, up to 30-flowered in ♂, 1–4-flowered in ♀, tendrils (0–)1 or 3, 0.5–2 cm.; sterile tendrils simple or 3-fid, 8–16 cm.. Male flowers tubular-campanulate, including the 2.5–4 mm. long stipe (12–)15–21 mm.; hypanthium cup-shaped, 0.8–2.5 by 2–3.5(–4) mm.; calyx-tube 4–8 mm.; calyx-lobes lanceolate, subacute, subentire, 6–8 mm., not punctate; petals inserted in or up to 2.5 mm. below the throat of the calyx-tube, lanceolate-linear, acute, 6–10 mm., 1-nerved, minutely serrulate near the top; filaments 2–3 mm., connate for 1.5–2.2 mm., inserted at the base of the hypanthium; anthers 7.5–11 mm., obtuse; septa 0; corona consisting of a fleshy rim 0.5(–1) mm., superposed by an up to 0.5 mm. high 5-lobed or-hooded undulate rim.; disk glands 0.. Female flowers ± tubular-campanulate, including the 1–1.5 mm. long stipe 8–15 mm.; hypanthium cup-shaped, ± 1.5 by 2.5–3 mm.; calyx-tube 0–2 mm.; calyx-lobes (or sepals) lanceolate, obtuse to acute, entire, 5–11 mm., not punctate; petals inserted in or up to 1.5 mm. below the throat of the calyx-tube, linear, 3–5 mm., 1-nerved, entire; staminodes ± 1 mm., ± connate at base; septa 0–0.3 mm.; corona consisting of a low rim, superposed by a fleshy 5-lobed or-hooded ± undulated upper rim, or as a single fleshy rim up to 1 mm. high; disk glands 0; gynophore 0.5–2.5 mm.; ovary ovoid-oblong, 3.5– 4.5 mm., smooth; style single 2–2.5 mm., stigmas ± reniform, laciniate-papillate, each ±1.5 mm. in diameter.. Fruits 1(–2) per inflorescence, not known at maturity, ovoid-ellipsoid, with acutish top, excluding the ± 6 mm. long stipe at least 2.5 cm.. Seeds not known.
