Characteristics

Perennials with suberect or decumbent branches up to 0.25 m long, usually much branched, with fibrous roots. Leaves oblanceolate to obovate, rarely orbicular, (10-)15-25(-45) x 10-20(-30) mm, usually abruptly cuneate, obtuse or rounded, dorsiventrally compressed and often somewhat convex on both surfaces, often with indistinct horny margin in upper half, usually grey-green with or without darker spots and with flaking wax. Inflorescence a spike-like thyrse with 1(-2)-flowered cymes, 0.15-0.25 m long, green; pedicels (1-)2-3 mm long. Buds terete, abruptly tapering towards apex, spreading. Calyx 1.5-2.5 mm long, greyish green. Corolla with cylindrical tube 9-13 mm long, green more or less tinged brown; lobes broadly triangular, 2-2.5 mm long, cuspidate, rough and rarely with a few club-shaped trichomes in throat, white or more or less tinged pink and darker around throat and on mucro. Anthers exserted. Squamae transversely oblong to square, 0.8-1.1 x 1-1.2 mm, scarcely emarginate, usually broadest at or below middle.
