Characteristics

Perennials with short, usually unbranched stem, c. 10-20 mm long with a ring of fusiform root tubers. Leaves obovate to orbicular, 10-15(-24) x 5-8(-12) mm, usually abruptly cuneate, rounded at apex, dorsiventrally compressed, concave above and convex below, softly fleshy, green to grey-green often with purple speckles above and often pink to purple below. Inflorescence a thyrse with 1-3(-4) monochasia each with 1-3 flowers, brownish purple; pedicels 8-16 mm long. Buds terete to slightly longitudinally grooved, gradually tapering towards apex, erect. Calyx 2-2.5 mm long, green. Corolla with a narrowly funnel-shaped tube 10-12 mm long, yellowish green; lobes broadly triangular-ovate, 2.5-3.5 mm long, acute, rough and with some club-shaped trichomes around throat, deep reddish purple. Anthers scarcely protruding. Squamae oblong, slightly emarginate, scarcely constricted towards base.
