Characteristics

Perennial with usually little branched stems up to 0.2 m long, with fibrous roots. Leaves oblanceolate, (25-)35-70(-100) X (10-)18-34 mm, gradually constricted so that margin forms a straight line from broadest point at apex towards base, rounded to rarely obtuse and mucronate, dorsiventrally flattened with prominent horny margin right around leaf, grey-green, rarely green and without purple spots. Inflorescence a thyrse with 1(2)-flowered cymes, 0.2-0.45 m long, grey-green; pedicels 2-3(-4) mm long. Buds terete, gradually tapering towards apex, spreading. Calyx 1.5-2.5 mm long, grey-green to grey. Corolla with cylindrical tube 9-12 mm long, pale green sometimes tinged red; lobes triangular-lanceolate, 2.5-4 mm long, acute, rough and with club-shaped trichomes towards throat, white often tinged pink with deep mauve margin. Anthers included. Squamae usually square, 0.9-1.1 mm long and broad, slightly emarginate and broadest at about the middle.

Like A. maculatus but leaves tapering gradually below and almost auriculate and rarely spotted.
