Characteristics

Perennial with much branched tuberous base with short erect branches, with fibrous roots. Leaves obovate to orbicular, rarely oblong to oblanceolate, (15-)20-30(-40) x (8-)12-20(-30)mm, rounded and rarely mucronate, more or less abruptly constricted towards the base, dorsiventrally flattened and usually concave above and more or less convex below, with horny margin right around the leaf, grey-green and usually with more or less dark spots. Inflorescence a thyrse with 1(2)-flowered cymes, 0.15-0.25(-0.35) m long, grey-green; pedicels (2-)4-6 mm long. Buds 5-angled and slightly grooved longitudinally where petals are fused, gradually tapering towards the apex, erect and at first adpressed to inflorescence. Calyx (l.5-)2-3 mm long, grey and often powdery. Corolla with cylindrical tube 10-13 mm long, pale yellowish green and covered with a thick bloom; lobes ovate, 1.5-2.5 mm long, acute to acuminate, rough and with club-shaped trichomes mainly in throat, off-white to slightly tinged pink or deeper pink in throat. Anthers protruding. Squamae square to ovate, 0.8-1.2 x 0.8-1.3 mm, usually deeply emarginate, broadest towards base.
