Characteristics

Leaves 14–46-foliolate; leaflets 2–4(7) × 0.8–1.2(2) mm, linear-oblong, rounded and mucronulate at the apex, obliquely rounded at the base, entire or very slightly serrulate near the apex, glabrous or with a few marginal setae; midrib and venation often purplish but the latter usually obscure; petiole and rhachis together 1–3(5) cm long, glabrous or with tubercular-based hairs; petiolules 0.3 mm long; stipules 3–10 × 1–1.5 mm, lanceolate, straight, spurred, persistent.

Fruit 8–30 × 3–3.8 mm excluding the 1.5–2 mm stipe, linear, straight or very slightly curved, 3–11-jointed, both sutures almost straight; articles 2.5–3 × 3–3.8 mm, oblong, compressed, with sparse tubercular-based hairs, smooth including the part raised over the seed.
Inflorescences axillary, 1-flowered; peduncle 5–10 mm long, pedicels 3–10 mm long with scattered short setae; bracts 2, 1–3 × 1–2 mm, rounded-ovate, clasping, acuminate; bracteoles 1.5–3 × 0.7 mm, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, with very sparse marginal hairs.
Standard yellow, probably with darker veins (or flowers described as pale violet-pink), 5–6 × 3.5 mm, obovate or oblong; wings 2–4 mm long, oblong or rounded triangular, short; keel petals not or slightly lacerate beneath.
Main stem somewhat woody at the base; young branches glabrous to densely covered with tubercular-based yellowish bristly hairs.
Calyx glabrous or with a few bristly hairs, 2-lipped; lips 4 × 1–2 mm, oblong, one entire the other 3-fid.
Weak annual herb to 0.9 m tall, sometimes forming a spreading mat to 45 cm in diameter from the taproot.
Seeds pale brown, 2.2 × 1.6 × 1 mm, compressed ellipsoid, minutely pitted.
