Rhizomes up to 1 cm. in diameter; scales not known.. Leafy shoots to 2.5 m. tall.. Leaves narrowly oblong-elliptic to narrowly obovate, 24-40 × 5-8 cm., acuminate, base slightly asymmetric, cuneate, glabrous above except for the sparsely pubescent midrib, sparsely appressed pilose beneath on the lamina, and more densely so on the midrib; nerves closely spaced, 23-29 per 5 mm. below, 18-27 per 5 mm. above; ligule coriaceous, rounded, sometimes bilobed, 4-7 mm. long; leaf-sheaths reticulate, with a mixture of small prickle-like hairs and reddish glands in the hollows.. Inflorescences 3-5-flowered, arising from the base of the leafy shoot (or occasionally (Gillman 448) from the rhizome), ascending; peduncle usually unbranched, 2-10 cm. long; bracts broadly ovate, up to 3.5 × 3 cm., accrescent in fruit, glabrous except for the sparsely pilose apex and the ciliate margins.. Calyx 5 cm. long, spathaceous, split ± 2.5 cm. at one side, sparsely pilose near the apex.. Petals white, the posterior elliptic, ± 4.5 × 2.5 cm., concave, apex obtuse; laterals narrowly triangular, acute, ± 3.5 × 0.5 cm.. Labellum ± 7 cm. long, the free portion broadly obovate, 4.5 × 4 cm., white with a yellow patch at the base.. Free filament ligulate, ± 2 cm. long; anther subterminal, 10-12 mm. long, the basal 8-9 mm. dehiscent; the apex 3-lobed, the apical lobe triangular, 5 mm. long, the lateral lobes narrowly triangular, 6 mm. long.. Style sparsely pubescent towards the apex; stigma trumpet-shaped, densely pubescent outside.. Fruit fusiform, ± 7 cm. long, smooth, with a short beak formed from the base of the calyx, and with the rest of the calyx persistent at the apex but not accrescent..
