Rhizomes extensive, 3-5 mm. in diameter.. Leafy stems to 2.5 m. tall.. Leaves narrowly elliptic, up to 29 × 4.5 cm., acuminate, base cuneate, glabrous; veins closely spaced, 21-26 per 5 mm. above, 24-31 per 5 mm. beneath; ligule coriaceous, rounded, 1-2 mm. long, glabrous; sheaths sulcate, glabrous.. Inflorescences 2-4-flowered, arising from the rhizomes and from the base of the leafy shoots; peduncle 2-4(-10) cm. long; bracts broadly ovate to triangular, membranous to papery, up to 3.5 × 2.3 cm., glabrous except for the sparsely appressed pubescent apex.. Calyx spathaceous, ± 3 cm. long, split for about 1.5 cm. down one side, sparsely appressed pubescent outside.. Petals white, the posterior oblong, concave, ± 4.5 × 1.5 cm., the laterals narrowly triangular, ± 4 × 0.5 cm..
