Leaves sessile, alternate; blade up to 80 x 20 mm, very narrowly ovate, narrowly elliptic, linear or ovate, apex acute to acuminate, base half-clasping, margins entire or remotely denticulate, 3-7-veined, sparsely to densely rough-hairy. Heads 15-25 mm in diameter, radiate, mostly solitary, rarely in few-headed corymbs; peduncle rough-hairy. Involucral bracts ± 3-seriate, imbricate, densely hairy. Receptacle epaleate. Flowers: ray florets female, fertile, blue, mauve or less commonly white; disc florets bisexual, yellow; Nov.-Feb. Fruit with cypsela elliptic, compressed, hairy. Pappus biseriate, outer row of short narrow scales, inner row of long scabrid bristles.
