Perennial herb. Flowering stems up to 0.8 m high; erect; in dense clumps. Leaves radical, compound; blade pinnate or bipinnate; segments obovate, lobed or pinnatifid, apices of lobes mucronate. Flowers: involucral bracts present; white or yellow; Oct.-Jan. Fruit elliptic, 5-ribbed, winged.

Distinguished by rosulate, broadly lobed leaves and large fruit. It differs from A. magalismontanum in the connate bracteoles (= involucel bracts) that are absent in the latter.
