Characteristics

Caulis 7-18 cm. longus foliis naviculiformibus, 3-7 × 3-5 mm.; flos solitarius bractea naviculiformi 12 × 6-8 mm. subtentus; perianthium papillosum tubo galeiformi in parte proximali ante flexum annulumque usque 20 mm. longo, usque 12 mm. diametro, albo flavoque et purpureo-maculato, ad orem reflexo 1.5-2 mm.; tepala 12-36 mm. longa projecturis basalibus 3-5 mm. latis ori perianthii adnatis; filamenta staminum usque ad medium perianthio adnata parte libera incurva 2-3 mm. longa, connectivo antherorum 1-2 mm. longo; stylus 1.5-2 × 0.5-1 mm., stigmate cyathiformi lobis sex obtusis.  Stem whitish, partly underground with clusters of bulbils, above ground branched or not, ribbed, scaly or irregularly papillose, 7-18 cm., ridged or winged just below inflorescence.. Leaves alternate, colourless, boat-shaped, clasping stem at base, 3-7 × 3-5 mm.. Bract boat-shaped, dull red, 12 × 6-8 mm.. Flowers produced singly, zygomorphic.. Perianth rugose or irregularly papillose; lower part of the tube white, veined maroon below, with a dark reddish brown patch at the highest point, 1.7-2 cm. on longest side, 3-5 mm. on shortest side, width near base 6-7.5 mm., width at widest point 1.2 cm.; internal flange large, undulate, 3-6 mm. at the widest point, 1 mm. at the narrowest point, interrupted for 6 mm.; upper part of tube yellow, 5-7 mm. on longest side, 4-5 mm. on shortest side, 1.1 cm. wide and up to 8 mm. high; mouth of perianth having fleshy recurved rim ± 1.5-2 mm., the flange-like edge 0.25-0.4 mm.; tepals white, 1.2-3.6 cm., maroon at 3-5 mm. wide hastate base, the extensions being fused to the perianth-mouth.. Lower half of filament adnate to perianth-tube for 3 mm., anthers 1-2 mm. long including the obtusely triangular upcurved 0.5 mm. long connective-extension; thecae facing the perianth-tube, not the stigmatic surfaces, distance between the top of the stamens and the flange 0.5-7 mm.. Ovary enclosed by clasping bract, 3 × 4.5 mm.; style 1.5-2 × 0.5-over 1 mm.; stigma cup-shaped, with 6 obtuse lobes, in 3 groups of 2, ridged below, raised above close to the depressed centre..
