Characteristics

Corolla 5–5.8 cm long, tube greenish at base, shading to yellow or orange-yellow above, lobes red, sometimes with yellow tip; apical part not swollen in bud; basal swelling slight; tube denticulate-papillate along sutures inside; lobes erect to slightly spreading, 1–1.2 cm long, often separating a little below filament attachment, upper three-fifths to two-thirds linear-oblanceolate, hardened inside.

Leaves alternate to opposite; petiole 1–4 mm long; lamina thickly coriaceous, dull green, 6–11 × 1–2.5 cm, elliptic-lanceolate to oblong-elliptic or oblanceolate, narrowed to blunt tip and attenuate base, glabrous, 3–7-nerved from near base, venation somewhat obscure.
Flowers clustered or in small few-flowered very shortly stalked umbels in axils or mostly at older nodes, subsessile but pedicels elongating to 3 mm in fruit; bract 2.5–4 mm long, ovate-triangular from a shortly cupular base, ciliolate.
Style flattened, slightly cross-shaped in section, with terete neck 3–3.5 mm below tip, broadening slightly to stigma; stigma 1 mm across, ovoid-conic.
Stamen filaments curved inwards, slightly corrugated, thickened and hardened at tip; anthers 3 mm long.
Robust shrub; branchlets slightly 4-angled, becoming terete, grey, glabrous.
Calyx 3 mm long, cupular, slightly toothed or subtruncate, ciliolate.
Berry at least 8 × 5 mm, urceolate with persistent calyx.
Receptacle 2–3 mm long.
