Characteristics

Corolla 4–4.8 cm long, flame-red with orange band around vents and tip darker red, glabrous except for minute hairs on bud head and sometimes a few small hairs on tube (especially the constriction); apical swelling of bud 4.5–5.5 × 2.5 mm, slightly ribbed; basal swelling 5–6 × 4–5 mm, ovoid, with tube constricted for 3 mm above; lobes erect, 8–9 mm long; upper expanded part 5–6 × 1–1.2 mm, linear-elliptic, hardened inside (and slightly thickened towards base).

Leaves subopposite; petiole 5–15 mm long; lamina green or yellow-green to glaucous, coriaceous, 4–10 × 2–6 cm, ovate to ovate-elliptic, obtuse to rounded at apex, rounded at base, glabrous, with 5–8 pairs of lateral nerves, 2–3 stronger and ascending.
Umbels 6–12(16)-flowered; peduncle 1–5(6) mm long, puberulous; pedicels 5–8 mm long, puberulous; bract limb 1.5–2 mm long, ovate-triangular, pointed or truncate, glabrous or puberulous; calyx 0.5–0.7 mm long, slightly toothed.
Shrub forming clumps 1–2 m in diameter; twigs compressed, glabrous to minutely puberulous on youngest parts.
Stamen filaments inflexed; tooth 0.4 mm long; anthers 2.5–3 mm long.
Style with a neck 3 mm long; stigma 0.8 mm across, capitate.
Berry red, 9 × 6 mm, obovoid-urceolate; seed yellow.
