Species

Angiosperms > Santalales > Loranthaceae > Agelanthus

Characteristics

Glabrous shrub; young branchlets subangular at least on the upper parts of internodes, becoming terete.. Leaves mostly opposite or ternate; petiole apparently 2–5 mm. long, but with age the attenuate part of lamina expanding so leaves become sessile; lamina coriaceous, lanceolate-elliptic to elliptic, (3–)5–16 cm. long, (1.5–)2–7 cm. wide, slightly acuminate to the pointed tip, attenuate at the base, more rounded to cordate with age, 3-nerved from base.. Umbels sessile in axils and at older nodes, mostly 4–6-flowered; pedicels 1–2 mm. long; bract cupular, slightly erose and ciliolate but with virtually no limb; receptacle hidden by bract, 2–3 mm. long.. Calyx deeply cupular, 3 mm. long, split by expanding corolla-base.. Corolla 5–5.5 cm. long, wine-red, yellow to orange over vents, usually with a green band at top of tube and with tip dark red; tube narrowed over filaments, slightly expanded over anthers; basal swelling slight, elongate, 7–10 mm. long, 3 mm. in diameter, next 10–12 mm. slightly narrowed; tube slightly papillate along filament-lines inside; lobes erect, 8–9 mm. long, the upper expanded part linear-elliptic to linear-oblanceolate, 5–6 mm. long, 1 mm. wide.. Filaments red, inflexed, flattened, the distal 0.6 mm. slightly hardened; anthers 2.5–3 mm. long.. Style green, slightly fluted or winged in section, slightly narrowed opposite the anthers forming a slight neck; stigma capitate, 0.6–0.8 mm. across.. Berry not seen.
