Characteristics

Corolla (3)3.5–4.5 cm long, yellow or yellow-green, sometimes reddish flushed, tips greenish turning reddish or purple-brown, glabrous or occasionally with a little puberulence on tube especially at constriction and base of lobes; apical swelling 4–5 × 1.5–2 mm, ribbed; basal swelling 2–3.5 × 3–4 mm, subglobular or depressed-globular, tube constricted above for 2–3 mm; lobes erect, 7–8 mm long; upper expanded part 4.5–5 × 1 mm, linear-elliptic, hardened inside, keeled outside.

Leaves subopposite; petiole 5–15 mm long, sometimes scurfy-puberulous in adaxial groove; lamina thinly to distinctly coriaceous, shiny light green to olive-green, 2.5–7 × 1–3.5 cm, linear-lanceolate to ovate-elliptic or ovate, acute to obtuse at apex, cuneate to slightly rounded at base, glabrous, with few primary lateral nerves, the second pair strongly ascending.
Shrub, up to 1 m high. Corolla with tube swollen at base, glabrous, lobes erect, basal swelling mostly rounded, but truncate below constriction of corolla tube. Branches buff-brown. Parasitic on diverse and numerous hosts including species of Acacia, Combretum, Grewia etc. Flowers orange-red with deep orange bands near apex, greenish orange basally.
Umbels 4–8-flowered; peduncle 1–3(5) mm long; pedicels 3–4(5) mm long, glabrous to minutely papillose-puberulous; bract limb 1–1.5 mm long, ovate-triangular.
Branches buff-brown; leaves elongate, mostly lanceolate, light grey-green, thickly coriaceous.
Receptacle and calyx broadly urceolate, glabrous; receptacle 1–1.5 mm long.
Stamens inflexed; tooth 0.2 mm long; anthers 2–2.5 mm long.
Calyx 0.3–0.5 mm long, slightly toothed.
Bushy shrub; twigs compressed, glabrous.
Style with neck 2.5 mm long.
Berry 7–8 × 4–5 mm, obovoid.
