Characteristics

A low shrub, up to 1.5 m. tall, with woody stems and branches covered with long, ascending, whitish hairs.. Stipules ovate, obtuse, reddish-brown, membranous, usually glabrous except for a marginal fringe of hairs of variable length.. Leaves petiolate, obtriangular in outline, flabellately 3–5-lobed, apically rounded to truncate-rounded, narrowly or broadly cuneate, broader than long, up to 3.5 cm. long and 4.5 cm. broad, silvery with white adpressed hairs beneath, more sparsely hairy and often darker green above; lobes rarely extending beyond 2/3 length of the lamina, often less than 1/3, all of subequal depth on any one leaf, very obtuse or rounded, 3–5(–11)-dentate; petiole up to 1 cm. long but usually less, thickly hairy.. Inflorescence an axillary, rather inconspicuous spiciform raceme, 1–3 cm. long, simple or bifurcated at the base; bracts ± concolorous with the stipules; pedicels pilose, ± 1.5 mm. long, not exceeding the bracts.. Flowers solitary.. Calyx-tube ± 2 mm. long, reddish, thickly hairy with long white hairs; calyx-lobes broadly ovate-triangular, 2 mm. long, ± acute, hairy as the tube on the outside and glabrous within; epicalyx-lobes narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 2 mm. long, hairy as the calyx-lobes, and equalling their tips or almost so..
