Characteristics

Bulb ovoid, 1–2 cm diam.; outer tunics membranous; bulblets reddish black. Leaves 2–5, sheathing lower ⅓–½ of scape, flat or channelled, solid, to 27 cm long, 5–20 mm wide. Scape 25–80 cm long, terete. Umbel few-to many-flowered, with or without bulbils; pedicels to 0.5–2 cm long, unequal; spathe caducous, entire, shortly beaked. Perianth cup-shaped; segments 4–7 mm long, 1.5–3.5 mm wide, obtuse, with small papillae on keel, reddish purple. Stamens included or with anthers and cusps slightly exserted; outer 3 filaments simple, 2.5–4.5 mm long; inner 3 tricuspidate.
