Characteristics

Bulb whitish, globose, ovate, 1 × 1-(2) cm, with offset bulbs; sheaths elongate, white, papery, to above ground level. Leaves 2-5, broadly linear, = or overtopping scape, strongly channelled. Scape 20-60 cm high, triquetrous, sheathed by leaves at base. Umbels 3-15-flowered, lax without bulbils; pedicels ± drooping, twice length of flowers; spathe-valves 2, ± deciduous. Flowers 10-15-(20) mm long, ± 15 mm diam., campanulate, white; segments oblong, acute, with green central stripe. Stamens ½ length of perianth; filaments simple without appendages. Capsule c. 7 × 7 mm, light brown. Seeds c. 5 mm long, black.

Bulb subglobose, c. 1–2 cm diam.; outer tunics membranous, white; bulblets numerous. Leaves 2–5, almost basal, 15–45 cm long, 3–17 mm wide. Scape 10–50 cm long, flaccid and ultimately prostrate in fruit. Umbel 5–10-flowered, loose, one-sided; pedicels 1–2.5 cm long; spathe persistent or caducous. Perianth campanulate, drooping; segments 10–18 cm long, acute or obtuse, white with prominent green median stripe. Stamens included; filaments almost linear, united to segments in lower part, 4–7 mm long. Capsule 6–7 mm long.
An onion family plant. It is a plant which continues to grow from year to year by re-sprouting from the rootstock. It grows to 50 cm high and spreads 30 cm across. The stem is erect. The stem is triangular in cross section. The leaves are narrow and flat. They are 25 cm long and develop in a clump. The flower stem has a triangle shape. It has white flowers with 6 petals. These droop. They are on one side of the stalk. It has a garlic smell.
