Characteristics

Leaves in a compact rosette, erect and curving slightly inwards; lamina to c. 50 cm long, c. 9 cm wide at the base, lanceolate-attenuate, dull yellowish-green, reddening in dry conditions, densely covered on both surfaces with small, pale spots; margin with pungent deltoid, minutely brown-tipped teeth to 3 mm long and 5–10 mm apart.

Racemes 10–25 × 6 cm, cylindric, ± densely flowered, minutely pubescent on the perianths, bracts, pedicels and rhachis; bracts c. 13 × 10 mm, broadly ovate, papery, many-nerved, enveloping the buds; pedicels 13–20 mm long.
Perianth coral-pink, paler towards the mouth, 25–32 mm long, c. 7 mm in diameter across the ovary, cylindric-trigonous; outer segments free to nearly halfway, with slightly recurved tips.
Inflorescence 1–1.2 m high, erect; peduncle 6–10-branched or more; branches obliquely spreading, subtended by ovate scarious bracts c. 15 × 12 mm.
Perennial herb, solitary or suckering to form small groups of plants, acaulescent.
Capsule c. 17 × 10 mm, ovoid, dark yellowish-brown.
Seeds c. 3 × 7 mm, black with whitish wings.
Stamens and stigma exserted c. 4 mm.
