Characteristics

Plants solitary or in small groups. Stem short, or up to 20 cm long, 6 cm diam. in old specimens, simple, or with off shoots from ground level forming groups of 6-12 plants. Leaves about 10-14. multifarious, 50-60 cm long, 6-8 cm broad at base, lanceolate-ensiform, the margins parallel for their greater length, acuminate at apex: upper surface usually deeply channelled, deep green, without spots, or sometimes lineate and with a few scattered long-elliptic spots in lower portion; lower surface convex, copiously white spotted near base, especially in the middle, the spots 2-4 mm long, 1 mm broad; margins with a soft white edge about 2 mm wide, armed with soft white teeth 1-3 mm long and 2-5 mm distant near base, more crowded and smaller upwards. Inflorescence simple, 1-3 from a rosette, as tall as the leaves or a little taller (40-60 cm.). Peduncle 14-20 mm diam., the upper half sterile bracteate with several ovate-acuminate thin, sub-scarious, amplexicaul, many-nerved bracts. Raceme capitate, sub-corymbose or slightly conic, about 40-flowcred, about 10-12 cm long and broad, flowers salmon-pink greenish tipped. Bracts ovate-acuminate, amplexicaul, sub-scarious, many-nerved, about half as long as their pedicels. Pedicels lowest 40-45 mm, longer in the fruit. Perianth straight, cylindric-trigonous, averaging 40 mm long, 11-12 mm diam. at base narrowing to 8-9 mm at throat, basally stipitate and narrowing into the pedicel; outer segments free almost to base, with margins somewhat involute and giving the perianth a somewhat 3-grooved appearance, with 5 greenish nerves confluent at apex, the apices sub-acute slightly spreading; inner segments free, broader than the outer, with more obtuse more spreading apices and a keel pink for its greater length turning green near apex. Anthers scarcely exserted, or exserted 1-2 mm Stigma exserted 2-3 mm. Ovary 10 mm long, tapering into the style.
