Characteristics

Plants small, acaulescent, with fusiform roots. Leaves 6-10, rosulate, linear, green, rather rigid and sub-erect, 25-35 cm long, 4-6 mm broad, dilating at base and becoming amplexicaul; upper surface canaliculate, unspotted; lower surface convex, with a slight obtuse keel, copiously spotted low down, the spots slightly tuberculate-spinulescent; margins ciliate with minute whitish teeth in lower half, obsolete upwards. Inflorescence simple, sometimes 2, 30-50 cm, high. Peduncle terete, slender, 2-3 mm diam., with several ovate-acuminate scarious sterile bracts. Racemes densely capitate, about 3 cm long, 4 cm diam., about 15-flowered, the flowers dull pinkish (Corinthian Pink R.C.S. XXV11). Bracts ovate-acuminate, about half as long as the pedicels. Pedicels lowest 10-20 mm long, shorter upwards. Perianth 10-11 mm long, cylindric-trigonous, basally stipitate and tapering into the pedicel, broader at base and narrowing to the throat with the mouth up-turned, regular (not bilabiate); outer segments free, 3-nerved, with apices sub-acute, slightly spreading; inner segments free, broader than the outer, and with more obtuse apices. Genitals not, or very shortly exserted. Flowers mostly in February.

Stemless grass aloe 200-300 mm tall, solitary; roots fusiform. Leaves 15-25 cm a rosette, linear to lorate, 220-340 x 4-6 mm, bright green, slightly canaliculate, margins minutely denticulate. Inflorescence a capitate raceme; peduncle 220-480 mm long; bracts ovate-acuminate, ±12 x 5 mm, ±5-nerved. Flowers dull pink or greyish, 7-15 mm long; pedicels 10-20 mm long, lengthening in fruit; inner and outer segments free. Anthers not or very shortly exserted. Ovary ±4.0 x 1.5 mm; style not or very shortly exserted. Fruit 10-15 x 5-7 mm, buff to pale grey.
Succulent, perennial herb, grass-like; acaulescent, rosettes single, erect. Leaves green, with copious slightly tuberculate-spinulescent spots towards base, linear, 250-350 mm long, margins ciliate, with minute whitish teeth in lower half. Inflorescences sometimes 2, simple, erect, 0.3-0.5 m high, with capitate, dense racemes. Flowers dull pink, 10-11 mm long; stamens and stigma not or only slightly exserted. Flowering time Feb., Mar.
A succulent herb. There are about 12 leaves forming a ring. They are narrow and have a channel down the front. They are 12-15 cm long. They have white spots. There are small white teeth along the edge. There are many flowers in a dense group.

Differs from the type in having fewer leaves (4-6), leaves distichous, slightly broader and more fleshy, and slightly larger flowers (12 mm), otherwise as in the typical form.
