Characteristics

Leaves in a dense rosette, erect and slightly incurved; lamina 40–50 cm long, 10–14 cm wide toward the base, ovate-lanceolate, greenish-grey, tinged pinkish especially in dry conditions, without spots; margin pinkish, with pungent deltoid light brown teeth 2–3 mm long and 8–10 mm apart.

Perianth brilliant coral-red to orange, rarely yellow, 35–42 mm long, c. 7 mm in diameter across the ovary, widening to c. 10 mm at the middle and narrowing to 7 mm at the mouth, cylindric-ellipsoid; outer segments free for c. three-quarters, with tips not recurved.
Racemes 30–40 × 4.5 cm, densely flowered, horizontal with the flowers secund along the upper side of the rhachis; bracts 10–15 × 5–6 mm, ovate-lanceolate, papery, whitish with darker nerves; pedicels c. 5 mm long.
Inflorescence 1, occasionally 2, erect to c. 90 cm high; peduncle 1–4-branched; branches horizontally spreading subtended by scarious deltoid bracts c. 10 × 14 mm, with a few sterile bracts below each raceme.
Stamens and stigma exserted 12–16 mm; stamens with purple filaments and orange anthers, stigma pale brownish.
