Characteristics

Plants solitary, short-stemmed; stems up to 200 mm long with distinct internodes. Leaves ±16, sheathing at base, blade narrowly deltoid, spreading to recurved, 300-500 x 20-40 mm, green with many dull white spots. Inflorescence a climbing panicle, 1.75-2.25 m long; racemes lax, cylindric; bracts deltoid, 5-7 x 2-4 mm, ±7-nerved. Flowers reddish, mouth whitish, 18-35 mm long; outer segments free for 3-7 mm, inner segments mostly dorsally adnate to outer; pedicels 5-9 mm long. Anthers exserted 1-6 mm. Ovary 5.0-6.0 x 2.0-3.5 mm, green; style exserted 1-8 mm. Fruit not seen.

Leaves laxly crowded at the stem apices, spreading and recurved; lamina 30–50 cm long, 2.5–4 cm wide toward the base, lanceolate-attenuate, dark glossy green with numerous elongated whitish spots on both surfaces; margin with pale cartilaginous deltoid teeth 1–1.5 mm long and 5–10 mm apart.
Inflorescence to 1–2 m long; peduncle slender, weak and supported by surrounding vegetation, 5–9-branched at the uppermost 30–50 cm; branches obliquely spreading, widely spaced, subtended by deltoid scarious many-nerved bracts c. 12 × 12 mm.
Perianth salmon-pink striped greenish longitudinally, green-tipped in bud, 25–30 mm long, c. 6 mm in diameter across the ovary, tapering slightly at the base, cylindric-trigonous; outer segments free for ± one-quarter with spreading tips.
Racemes 5–15 × 5 cm, cylindrical, very laxly flowered; bracts 4–6 × 4 mm, ovate, papery, whitish with darker nerves; pedicels 7–10 mm long.
Perennial herb, solitary or suckering to form large groups of plants.
Stamens and stigma exserted c. 6 mm.
Stems to 20 cm long, decumbent.
