Perianth scarlet, greenish-tipped, 25–30 mm long, c. 7 mm in diameter across the ovary, cylindric-trigonous, narrowing towards the mouth, base tapering into the pedicel; outer segments free almost to the base with tips very slightly spreading.
Raceme 10–20 × 5 cm, conical-cylindric, laxly flowered; bracts 10–15 × 5–7 mm, ovate-acuminate, reddish-brown; pedicels 12–18 mm long, with pendent flowers.
Inflorescence simple, erect to 30–50 cm high rarely more; peduncle with a few sterile, ovate, brownish bracts below the raceme, 2–3 cm apart.
Perennial herb, suckering to produce dense clusters of erect stems.
Stems 10–15 cm long and 1–1.5 cm in diameter.
Stamens and stigma scarcely exserted.
Capsule and seeds not seen.
